Calendula

Calendula seed - $1 per pack
Each pack contains 1 teaspoon of seed. Calendula are great at attracting Butterflies to your garden as they provide a good source of nectar. They are a mix of double orange & yellow flowers. Calendula is hardy annual, so if planted this time of year, they will provide winter nectar for the over-wintering Butterflies. Growing instructions included with seed.


Giant Swan Plant

Giant Swan Plants Asclepias physocarpus - $2 each
They are presently about 15-20 cm high & are now starting to bush out after being 'pruned' by a wandering caterpillar. They will be ready for next spring if kept free from frost over winter.
Swan Plants are great for attracting the Monarch Butterfly to your garden as they provide food for their caterpillars & nectar for the adults. You are bound to get Butterflies come lay eggs, which will result in having caterpillars to watch develop, change into Pupae & hatch into the next generation of adults. Growing instructions are included with plants.

Small Nettle

Small Nettle (Urtica Urens) seed - $1.50 per pack
Each pack contains a ¼ teaspoon, which is a few dozen seed. Nettles are great for attracting the Red & Yellow Admiral Butterflies to your garden as they provide food for their caterpillars. They also attract 2 moth species as well, so you are bound to get some caterpillars to watch develop. Growing instructions included with seed.
These packs have a up to 10% grit as it is gathered from under the plants.

Seed with caterpillar doo - $1 per pack
Same pack size as above, but this is seed left over from a breeding cage & has upto 40% caterpillar doo, so best for immediate sowing only.

If you have grown Swan Plant for Monarch's, then Nettles provide a good second step in helping Endemic Butterflies & Moths like the Red & Yellow Admiral's grow in population.

Tropical Milkweed

Tropical Milkweed Asclepias Curassavica (Bloodflower) seedlings - $1 each (4 Available)
They are presently about 5cm high which can be ready for next spring if kept free from frost over winter. Tropical Milkweed are great for attracting the Monarch Butterfly to your garden as they provide food for their caterpillars & nectar for the adults. You are bound to get Butterflies come lay eggs, which will result in having caterpillars to watch develop, change into Pupae & hatch into the next generation of adults. Tweedia

Tweedia (Tweedia caerulea) seed - $1 per pack (Last Pack)
Each pack contains 20 seed. Tweedia also attracts the Monarch Butterfly to your garden as they provide food for their caterpillars & nectar for the adults. They have a nice sky blue flower & grow to about 20cm high, so are suitable for borders. You will be unlikey to get eggs, but the leaves & flowers are good back-up food for the hungry caterpillars of any age. This is the first alternative plant listed on the Alternative Monarch foodplants page. Growing instructions are included with plants.
